Sunday Pier Swim Late Afternoon Oceanside CA
I got a late-afternoon impulse to hit the beach and swim around the pier. There was an average number of beachgoers today and not as many surfers as you'd expect. Beautiful, smallish waves for riding. Cold water. About 59. Took me 33 minutes to get around the pier. The water was glassy and great for swimming.

Good Low Tide Surf and Swim Day in Oceanside
Very low tide again Friday 5PM. The water was very flat though, great for swimming. The surf break was good stretched out along the beach-the surfers didn't have to crowd into a small area. 2-3 foot with decent shape. Visibility only about 4 feet. Getting colder. I'd say we're at the 59-60 degree point. Starting to hurt the skin. I have this great swim cap that my daughter gave me which is amazing at keeping the head warm. My swim took 34 minutes-a long time with the low tide. Coming in the energy is just sapped from the body by the cold-it's interesting.
A beautiful beach day in Oceanside, California.

The Water was Wet Today
The tide was very low but there were some 3 foot waves-kind of sloppy ones but surfers were having fun. The water was choppy and cold. I got the direction of the current correct today, anyway. I swam north to south. 25 minutes with the low, low tide. That was just about right with the water temp today. I didn't want to do much.

Rough Water Swim Around the Pier-and I was going to rest instead
I really needed a day off from the beach but I had to drive by and check out the water. I could see whitecaps from where I work and it was rough and sloppy. The beautiful visibility was gone. Only a handful of surfers. No visibility. The wind was blowing the surface water southeast.
I swam against a moderate current and two-foot chop to get around the pier. It was one of those days when you wonder when/if you are going to get around it. It took me 46 minutes-and that was with a really low tide.
