Harbor to Pier Swim

Today the game was to swim from the Oceanside Harbor Beach to the Pier. I went around past the Pier and in to the beach there. The water was warmer than usual. No fins. No webbed gloves. I had the ocean to myself except for a sailboat, kayak, or two or three.
Oh, note the out-of-control urban runoff into our beautiful ocean. Yuk! Swimming through the ocean currently is like swimming through a churned up sandy, dirty, silty mess. I have my hepatitis shots!
The city is currently also dredging the sand in the harbor and spraying it south down the beach to replace eroded sand. That's why the dredges and machinery are visible in the pictures.

Friday March 4th

It was a chilly 57 degree swim around the pier today. Heading out was ok but, as usual, getting around the end of the pier was rough, choppy, and heading into the current. Coming in on the north side was lousy with the continuous small waves crossing into me as I swam. Couldn't really breathe on the left side with the chop and slop. The water is still dirty from the rains last week. Looking forward to cleaner water. Forgot the camera.

A few more pics Thursday

Thurs 3 March O'Side Pier After Work

I swam the pier yesterday for the first time since the rains got the water all dirty. They say stay out for 72 hours after a rain so I had about 5 days off.

Yesterday and today were similar. Swimming against the current to get around the pier from south heading north. Today there was a nasty smell and dirtiness to the water (smelled like sh##) out around the pier. Sometimes I think that there is a sewage outflow drain pipe that empties out around/under the end of the pier.

I took a few pictures today. I didn't use my webbed gloves yesterday and today and worked on my arm stroke/pull. I did wear the fins for safety.

Sunday No Swim For Me

It has been raining off and on for several days so the water drainage runoff has polluted the beach water. I swam Friday, knowing that, and started to get sick Friday night with a respiratory/breathing/head cold mix of symptoms. No swim for me yesterday and today-next couple of days doubtful-better to stay well.
